“The Forbidden Word”.
This activity is tought as a review and extension for the lesson “Jobs” in which we study the different professions people can do. We`ll work this unit in the 4th grade of Primary School, although we could use this dynamics for any theme in any course, always adapted to our students level.
The teacher will make a card with the vocabulary used in the lesson and a brief, simple description of every word. This material will be given to every pupil and it will be the base to work on the principal activity. Below we can see an example of the card related with our unit.
On the main activity, “The Forbidden Word ” the teacher will divide the class into four or five teams. The activity consists on two parts:
- On the first part the teacher reads every definition (literally or approximate, it depends on the level of the group) and the children have to guess the word he/she is referring to. When a team knows the answer, they can say it through word-turn. If they are right, they win one point, and if not, there will be a rebound.
- On the second part, every team choose two cards from a pile. They have 5 minutes to select a spokesperson and think about what definitions are the most appropriates to describe the words they have in the card. The spokesperson will say the definition and the other teams have to guess it. As the same way as in the part one, the teams will earn a point if they’re right and it will be rebounds. If there is no right answer, the “speaker team” will lose one point. It´s very important that the kids don't say the word they are describing.
The winner team will have an extra point in the test of the unit “Jobs”.
Here we have a table in which we can see a resume of the activity:

I think that this activity is very good for kids.
ResponderEliminarFirst of all, objectives are perfect and they are connected with the topic. She visibly indicated the methods that she used and resources needed.
The session has a well-defined structure. It is divided in two parts, she indicate the time required for each activity and what you have to do every time.
Finally, the theory is associated with the practice and with real life experiences. There is a lot of vocabulary related with jobs. Kids can talk about their families’ jobs, what they do and what they would like to be in the future.
I think this blogs links theory and practice with games, and it's funny because every kid enjoys playing games. In my opinion the objectives are clear because step by step, the activities completed all the goals. Also, I think that the blog uses a wide vocabulary about every job, and in my opinion it connects the topic with real life. On the one hand the game is aimed at developing the kid’s motivation, on the other hand I think that the competitiveness could be improved and maybe unnecessary.

EliminarGood job with your blog. I think your activity links theory and practice and connects with real life. It's useful for children. They will learn about jobs and they will improve their listening and reading skills.
ResponderEliminarThe objectives are clear and they have coherence with the topic. I think it's a good idea to play with pupils. Children learn the lesson and they are motivated.
The activity is good written, with a correct syntax and vocabulary. The material you use is very simple and easy to prepare but effective.
I would like to do this activity in my future class!
It’s a great activity for children, as it connects with their daily lives: thay see people working everyday. The cards show examples of those professions they don’t know and also gives a good example for them to see. Also, the way the teahcer “plays” with the students will be an example of what they will have to do, and practice it later. The vocabulary used is wide an also helps the children to improve. Furthermore, being a game the students will feel involved and learn more (without noticing!)
ResponderEliminarThe clear objectives also help the sutudents: better having few but clear (and reasonable) objectives than having lots of them. It is important to have coherence with the topic (the students could be confused), but there’s no problema with it in here.
PD. I didn't see your comment, David
hehehe
At a first sight, the activity is mostly complete. The development is clear and the election of the task is a good choice because is a task that we can find in daily life. At school, It is a perfect moment to review these vocabulary playing funny games with classmates.
ResponderEliminarThe structure is perfect described, including the materials she is going to use during the lesson plan and the objectives pupil's are going to achieve.
To conclude, maybe the process of the activities are a bit boring, because is just reading a loud the description of the profession. I would create or rebuilt the formulation to another one more attractive.
